How to Join — Become a Commandant
Step-by-step path to serving as a CACC commandant
Commandants are the credentialed adult instructors who teach the CACC curriculum and lead cadets in the field. Most are educators, veterans, or community leaders. The Corps welcomes applicants who want to mentor California's youth and serve through the California Military Department.
The Path to Commandant
- Step 1 — Express InterestEmail RECRUITING@CACADETS.ORG with your background and the school or region you want to serve.
- Step 2 — Pre-Appointment Course (PAC)Complete the PAC, which orients candidates to the Corps, curriculum, and California Military Department processes.
- Step 3 — Background & CredentialingSubmit fingerprints, education verification, and any required teaching credential paperwork.
- Step 4 — AppointmentReceive your commission and rank, and report to your assigned unit or school.
- Step 5 — Ongoing TrainingAttend annual commandant training and pursue advanced credentials as you grow in the program.

Credentialed Teachers
Especially those who can teach CACC as an elective on their school's master schedule.
Veterans
With or without a current teaching credential — alternate credentialing paths exist.
Active Community Leaders
Coaches, school staff, and youth-program leaders looking to expand their impact.
